Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-K is beginning our end-of-year activities. We are beginning to practice for our end-of-year program for our family and friends. We continue to practice our letters and sounds and learn our numbers. Pre-K is doing an excellent job learning the alphabet and sounds and paving the road to Kindergarten!
Kindergarten
Kindergarten had a wonderful time on our field trip to the zoo. Thank you PTO for helping with the cost of our field trip t-shirts. Kindergarten is learning about how to take care of the Earth. We have picked up trash, planted seeds and participated in a scavenger hunt that helped us learn about out Precious Earth for Earth Day.
Kindergarten Graduation is coming soon. Please mark your calendar for Thursday, May 19th @ 6:30pm in the SRHS gym.
First Grade
First grade is reading more every day. We are focused on becoming fluent readers and the teachers are so impressed with the progress shown by our students this year. We want to encourage parents to continue reading each night. This time of the year it is easy to slow down or stop, but please continue reading with your child, it makes a world of difference. In math we are learning about geometric shapes in 2-D and 3-D as well as telling time to the hour and half hour. In science we are learning about life cycles and the parts of plants. Keep reading!
Second Grade
It has been a very exciting time in second grade. We have been learning about an insect’s life cycle. We have been patiently waiting for our caterpillars to turn into butterflies. Some have arrived and others we are still waiting on. We hope to set them free soon. We have also started shark week. We will be learning all about sharks. In math we will be working on measurement and starting multiplication. Encourage your children to keep working hard. Summer is almost here!
Third Grade
Believe in yourselves 3rd graders because WE believe in you!! With the STAAR tests right around the corner, we want to share some Test-Taking Tips:
Remember to “feed your brain” and eat a good breakfast
Get plenty of REST and do your BEST!
Like The Little Engine That Could, believe in yourself and remember, “I CAN DO IT!”
Remember to get lots of kisses, love, and warm encouragement from home before you leave for school
The results of the test are a REFLECTION on what you know--your strengths and weaknesses
Follow directions
STAY CALM!
Look for key “Wh” words in the question, who, what, where, why, how!
Comfortable clothes free you from distractions
Trust your first answer
We are in need of pretzels, Goldfish, and peppermints for STAAR snacks. Please send donations to the office or your child’s homeroom teacher.
