Pre-Kindergarten
Our Pre-K class enjoyed a great time with Miss Licon’s first grade class when we broke confetti eggs on each other’s heads! Lots of confetti and lots of fun! Also the same day we celebrated Christen Mitchell’s 4th birthday with her. Our class enjoyed being with Christen and we had cupcakes! We have started practicing for our graduation program at the end-of-the-year. Can you believe its almost here? We are all still hard at work learning our final letters and sounds.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten field trip is coming up soon. Thank you to PTO for helping with the cost of our field trip T-shirts. We are looking forward to going to the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler on April 15 and learning all about the animals and their habitats.
Picture day went great, don’t forget Kindergarten Graduation pictures are on Thursday, April 7. Please be looking for more information coming home soon.
First Grade
March is an exciting time of year, full of wild weather and changes all around us that spark curiosity in young minds. First grade is turning its thoughts toward spring. We are reading stories about lions, lambs and Leprechauns. We are discussing things that happen in spring and are watching for rainbows and bluebonnets. Teachers are seeing students’ reading bloom like the expected spring flowers and are excited about the progress the children are showing. The teachers again want to encourage parents to keep reading with their child each night. We can see the results! In math we are exploring two and three dimensional shapes. Please be watching for shapes in the environment (things like cereal boxes and road signs) and point them out to your child, asking what the shape is. The students also enjoyed learning about Presidents and American symbols and were full of questions on these subjects.
Second Grade
It is an exciting time to be in second grade. Flat Stanley is beginning to return from all of his adventures. There is no set time for him to return so it is adding to the excitement. Please continue to read with your child each night. We are reviewing coins, addition and subtraction facts with and without regrouping/borrowing. We are also learning about making deposits and withdrawals at a bank.
Third Grade
We’ve just begun our final 9 weeks, and now it is crunch time as we prepare for the STAAR tests in May. Please mark your calendars: Math STAAR will be Monday, May 9th and Reading STAAR will be Tuesday, May 10th. If your student is not currently attending after school tutoring, it is not too late to get him or her signed up. Simply send a note and plan to provide their transportation home on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Our computer lab is open daily at 7:15 on a first-come, first-serve basis for those 3rd grade students who wish to get extra practice with math or reading. Many parents have asked how they can best help their child, and we have two suggestions: 1. Have your child read ALOUD to you or even a pet for 20 minutes EVERY night. 2. PRACTICE your math facts. We want to emphasize that the more one reads ORALLY, the greater chance one has to succeed in all subjects. On another note, our ELAR research project will be beginning soon, so we are asking for donations of shoeboxes for the students’ dioramas. Lastly, we want to send a big thank you to all those parents who helped as chaperones on our Perot field trip--we couldn’t have done it without you, and we all had a wonderful time!
