February has come and gone, and here we are beginning March at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School. It is amazing how quickly this school year has flown by.

In the month of February we had a lot of activities and events. We started off our month by naming a new student of the month, 3rd grader, Alyssa Weatherly. Next, we celebrated our 100th day of school with many “100” day activities. We also began our after-school test- taking/enrichment days for our entire 3rd grade class. This program is to help prepare ALL of our 3rd graders for their STAAR testing in May. So far, everyone seems to be really enjoying themselves and learning a lot.

Our biggest event of the month was our Scholastic Book Fair. This year’s theme was “Groovy”! During our book fair, we hosted families on one night and grandparents on another night. We want to thank our families and grandparents for supporting our school with your generous purchases made on both of these nights. You helped our PTO put a book in every student’s and teacher’s hands, so THANK YOU!

During that same week of book fair, we celebrated Valentine’s Day with parties. Lots of valentines and “valograms” were delivered and there was so much sugar being consumed by our students from the “sweet treats” at parties, we could have powered our school’s electrical systems for about a week from the energy produced (Just kidding)! After our very eventful two weeks, we earned a three day weekend to celebrate President’s Day.

After returning from our three day weekend, our Pre-K traveled to Scurry-Rosser High School for their Pre-K field trip. They got to visit the band hall, where they learned about the different instruments and then were treated to a performance by our high school band. Afterwards they picnicked at McDonald’s. They had an awesome trip.

The last full week of February, our 1st grade traveled to the Dallas World Aquarium for their annual field trip. As usual, they had a wonderful time and got to see lots of interesting aquarium and rain forest animals. It was an amazing trip for all. Later that same week our whole school helped our 3rd graders prepare for STAAR testing by participating in our Mock STAAR Benchmark days. It was an intense couple of days because we were in “test mode” (where we have quiet hallways, quiet lunches and no visitors on campus) but with everyone helping out, we believe that ALL of our 3rd graders are going to “rock” the STAAR in May.

We finished up our busy month by celebrating our Shining Stars. This month’s character traits that our shining stars were chosen for were responsibility and perseverance.

Lastly, we want to thank Sloan’s Super Save, Commercial Sports Floors, Animal Medical Clinic and Virginia Payne for their generous donations to our school which has helped us meet our monetary goal for our Outdoor Learning Center. Now we can move forward with our planning and hopefully break ground in early spring. Thank you ALL for helping us meet our goal.

Please remember you are always welcome at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School, Where the Wildcat Tradition Begins. Take care and God Bless.
