Happy, Happy New Year from all of us at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School. Since returning from our Christmas vacation, we have hit the ground running this second semester. We started off the month celebrating our AR winners with a “Pickle with the Principal” party. We had 100 students obtain their AR reading goals for the 2nd nine weeks. Thank you parents for helping your children at home with their reading logs. This nine weeks we are working towards a popcorn party and then our pizza party for the final nine weeks of the year. Also remember that the top three AR point winners per each grade level will be going on our AR shopping trip at the end of the year. Keep up the good reading. Our next major event for January was our 2nd nine weeks PAWS assembly. During this assembly we recognized our perfect attendance winners, A/B honor roll, A honor roll, Most Improved students and Exemplary Students. We also drew one boy’s name and one girl’s name from all of our Perfectly Punctual winners for the semester. These students won a “Razor” scooter and helmet. Our winners were 3rd grader, Kenneth Bascom and 1st grader, Roxanna Silva. Congratulations! On the last Tuesday of the month, we hosted third grade parent information night. This meeting was an informational session for our third grade parents about the importance of our upcoming STAAR math and reading tests, scheduled for May. We also discussed our new after-school test strategy sessions, beginning the first week of February and running through the first week in May. We finished up the month by celebrating our “Shining Stars” and our Student of the Month, Shea Crews. This month’s shining star character traits were Trustworthiness and Optimism. The shining star students chosen this month exhibited these character traits. Lastly, I want to extend a heart-felt thank you to our own SRES PTO board for their generous donations to help support each of our grade level field trips. I would also like to recognize and thank Hatcher Sanitation for their generous donation to our third grade field trip. It is the generosity of others that make this world a better place. Thank you all for your support of our school. Please remember that you are always welcome at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School, Where the Wildcat Tradition Begins.
