Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-K has started on a new journey! We are now learning about computers; how to use the mouse and the different parts of a computer. With our new knowledge, we are now using I-Station! I-Station is tailored to each grade level and offers opportunities in learning that are individual and fun for our students.

Kindergarten

We are looking forward to our Kindergarten Valentine Party. The party will be on February 12 at 2:30, if you would like to help sponsor the cost of the pizza party please get in contact with your child’s teacher. We are looking forward to the upcoming Kindergarten Field Trip that will be in April. We will be going to the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler. Be on the lookout for information and permission slips in your child’s folder. Don’t forget the Six Flags Read to Succeed reading log is due on Tuesday, February 16. Continue to read to your child daily.

First Grade

As first grade moves into the second semester, we want to focus more on reading fluency. While we don’t want our students rushing through what they read, we don’t want them reading words slowly one at a time in a robotic voice either. Their reading should flow as our regular speaking voice does. In math we are learning more about adding and subtracting and will soon be adding three numbers together. Our math vocabulary is important. The numbers we add together are “addends” and what they add up to is the “sum.” In subtraction, our answer is the “difference.” First grade is excited about our upcoming field trip to the Dallas World Aquarium on February 22, 2016. Teachers will be sending home more information about this soon. Please keep reading nightly with your child - this simple act will help put your child on the road to success!

Second Grade

We are very excited for the second semester of school! The second graders will be working hard on their reading fluency and comprehension this time of year. It is important to read every night! Students will begin to read assignments and assessments on their own during class time. In Math, students will begin double and triple digit addition and subtraction. This is a very important standard to achieve. Parents should expect to see a note about Valentine Parties soon. Let your child’s teacher know if you can help. Each student needs to bring their own, small individual snack each day.

Third Grade

We are off to a roaring start to second semester. Now’s the time for students to buckle down and focus--STAAR is just around the corner. After-school test-taking strategies/enrichment will be starting on February 2. Every 3rd grade student is encouraged to attend so all students can reach their maximum potential. We also want to remind students how important it is to return all assignments on time and arrive on time so as to avoid missing vital instruction.

We’re looking forward to our field trip to the Perot museum on March 4th. Field trip money is due by February 5th. In ELAR, we soared into space with Ellen Ochoa and sent postcards to our families at home about our adventures. We created timelines to explore and remember the history of our astronauts. We had lots of fun digging into newspapers, discovering how they are put together and learning about the format of news articles. In science, we finished our tour of the solar system. Along the way, we explored constellations, inner and outer planets, and phases of the moon. In math, we are focusing on multiplication and division with a strong emphasis on learning our times tables. We’ll soon begin an exciting program called “Kicking It: A Program For Mastering Multiplication Facts.” Students will earn “belts” as they master their facts.
