Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-K has experienced new things this month! We learned about what to do in case of a fire when the Scurry-Rosser Fire Department visited our school. We participated in pink-out week in support of the cure for breast cancer. Pre-K has also donated many socks for Soctober! We continue to learn letters,

sounds and shapes and how to write our name. Our class is fun and exciting with all our great kids.

Kindergarten

Homecoming and Red Ribbon Week was a success. We would like to thank Officer Chad Jones and his K-9 (Kilo) for a wonderful presentation to the students on drug awareness.

We would also like to thank the Scurry Volunteer Fire Dept. for talking with the students about Fire Safety and letting them tour the Fire Trucks.

The SOCKTOBER Drive has also been successful. Thank you to those of you who have donated to help those in need. We are currently holding parent conferences. We will be discussing TPRI data and Report Cards for the first 9wks. Please continue to check your child’s folder and study sight words/home readers daily.

First Grade

First grade is getting excited about Halloween and fall. We are talking about the change of seasons - now that the seasons are beginning to change! The first graders are getting into their routines and are taking their first steps toward becoming independent readers. The teachers want to thank parents for reading with their child nightly. We know it is not always easy but reading with your child every night during this critical stage is very important. In math first graders are learning addition and subtraction strategies and will soon be counting coins. The teachers have noticed that kids today don’t handle money - especially coins - as much as we did in the past, thanks to the widespread use of debit cards. Parents can help prepare their students for our upcoming math activities by letting their students handle and count coins with them. Happy counting!

Second Grade

The second grade classes have had a fun, busy month of October! We have been reading all about Fall and pumpkins. The students have investigated pumpkins in the science lab and learned all the parts. Each class will be going to the science lab on Wednesdays. We attended our field trip to Yesterland Farm. The students had a blast and thank you to all the parents that were able to attend the field trip! We had homecoming week and Red Ribbon week. All four classes have a lots of school spirit!

In Math, students are learning about money and counting a collection up to a dollar. Please work on this with your child at home with actual coins. Also, please read every night with your child!!!

Third Grade

The 2nd 9 weeks is off to a roaring start. Several top-notch Visualize assignments have won a place on our Wall of Honor for all students and teachers to view and enjoy. Our Rockin’ Readers who meet the weekly reading criteria of 80 minutes each week will soon be munching on their personal pan awards, thanks to Pizza Hut and their Book-it program.

We want to send a shout of thanks out to PTO for the awesome Spirit Store this year. We had lots of fun during Spirit Week, and the winners of our Wildcat Spirit drawing contest will soon have their creations proudly displayed in the office.

UIL teams will soon be announced as coaches and contestants have been working hard to prepare for the event, which Scurry-Rosser ISD will proudly be hosting again on December 12th. Congratulations to this month’s caring and respectful Shining Stars.
