Pre-Kindergarten
Welcome to Pre-K! This year we are using the Frog Street Press curriculum. We have started learning the letter A, the color red and the circle shape. We will begin learning to write our names and hold a pencil. Scissor skills and cutting will also be introduced this month.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten has had a great start to the new year. We are currently learning our numbers 1-10, writing our name correctly, learning new letters everyday and starting to read in our new take home readers. Please continue to check your child’s blue MOOSE folder daily. Kindergarten TPRI will be Sept. 28-Oct. 1, please make sure your child is well rested and has a good breakfast each day.
First Grade
FFirst graders have been busy saying hello to old friends and getting to know new friends as well a new teachers. They have been learning new words and having their first spelling and sight word tests. In math, students are learning about numbers and how numbers go together to form groups of tens and ones. The teachers have been very proud of all their hard work and how well they have done. Students and teachers are looking forward to cooler, fall-like weather and fall activities. First graders will be learning all sorts of things about apples and fire safety in the weeks to come.
Second Grade
Second grade is off to a good start. Mrs. Moeller, Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Betik and Ms. Stewart are all excited about the new year and new students!
We have been busy learning about place value, in math. We have read fairy tales, folk tales fables and legends. We have learned about scientific tools and what a scientist does. We are really excited about the new science lab!
We read about the legend of Johnny Appleseed. There were many apple activities. We sampled apple products, weighed and measured apples, learned about apple production and did apple art.
Second grade will go on their field trip on October 15. We are going to Yesterland Farm for the pumpkin patch. This will be an interesting and enriching Fall field trip.
Third Grade
Third grade is off to a great start! Everyone is working hard. We’re excited about our new science lab, which enables students at all grade levels to dig in and learn! Our adjusted team-teaching schedule enables teachers and students to develop a more cohesive, collaborative learning environment. With that said, we offer a gentle reminder that students are engaged with core curriculum until recess occurs at 2:15. Therefore, it is important for them to be present during those learning opportunities. As much as possible, please schedule doctor’s and other appointments after those crucial hours of instruction. We want our students to have the best opportunities to succeed. Many thanks to our P.TO. for our school shirts and for the wonderful additions to our playground! Congratulations to our 3rd Grade Student Council Representatives. We want to encourage our students to read every day. We will begin our Reader’s Log and Visualize soon, as well as Pizza Hut’s “Book-It” program. More information will be forthcoming. Until then, we look forward to a successful, productive year. Go Wildcats!
Music
We have had such a wonderful start to a new school year, and with so much in store this year in music, we are excited to see what the rest of this year brings! Parents, be looking out for more information on a performance from your student. Each grade level will be featured in a performance at some point this year and we would love to have a big audience at each one! Here is a schedule of what the performances will look like:
Kindergarten – May 19th @ 6:30 PM (Kindergarten Graduation)
First Grade – February/March Time TBD (Storybook Play)
Second Grade – October 29th @ 1:30 PM (Storybook Play for Halloween)
Third Grade – December 10th @ 6:30 (All School Christmas program with 3rd grade featured)
The Christmas program will still be the entire school, but last year’s speaking parts were such a hit that we decided to make it even bigger this year! Those speaking parts will be featured in the third grade group with the hope that each third grade group to come will have the same opportunity in the coming years! Like I said, there is A LOT to see this year in music class, and we are excited to share these performances with you! Be looking for your child’s performance information as the time grows closer!
