Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-K is continuing to master the alphabet and its sounds. We are also learning our numbers one through twenty. Almost everyone is there! We are very proud of our class. Our Valentine’s Day activities were great fun and we enjoyed the day.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten had a great 100th day with tons of 100 year old students. Valentine’s parties were a blast, thank you to all the parents who helped out. Kindergarten is planning a field trip to the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, TX on April 2, 2015. Be on the look out for permission slips and general information about the field trip, it will be coming home soon.

First Grade

First graders had a wonderful time at our Valentine’s Day Party. Students enjoyed ice cream and other treats while they had fun reading - many for the first time - their own Valentines. First grade is now looking forward to our field trip to the Dallas World Aquarium on April 17. Parents are reminded to turn in permission slips and admission fees as soon as possible. Adults who will be having children in their group, other than their own children, must pass a background check through our office. Please do this as soon as possible. First grade also had a good time at the Book Fair and want to thank the PTO for ensuring that every child got a book to take home. This was awesome for our students and was deeply appreciated. First grade teachers want to stress how important daily reading at home is, especially at this time as students are trying to improve their fluency as they read, and having a wonderful book to read helps students engage in reading. It can not be said enough, to help your child succeed; read, read, read!

Second Grade

We would like to thank all of the second grade parents for all of your help with the Valentine parties. We could not have done it without you!

We have been busy in second gradelearning about the parts of a letter and how to write a formal letter.

We are currently reading Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In this story, Stanley travels by mail to visit his friend. He also has many other adventures. Each second grader will make their own Flat Stanley and send him off on an adventure. We are all very excited. We can’t wait to see where he goes and what he does!

In math we are working on triple digit addition and subtraction. Practice, practice!!!

The 2nd grade field trip has been scheduled for April 23, 2015 to the Cook Center Planetarium in Corsicana, Tx. Watch for field trip note after spring break.

Third Grade

What a busy month we had! Some highlights: Listening to Author Dr. Mclanahan read her book, the Shriner’s share fire safety tips, and the Tooth Fairy’s dental hygiene tips, the 100th day of school celebration, Valentine’s Parties, and the Book Fair. Thank you, PTO for all your hard work!

The 3rd grade students will be going on a field trip to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science this year on May 8th. We will be ordering box lunches ahead of time so that each child will be able to go and explore and discover new things without having to worry about bringing their lunch. To help cover this cost, the third grade SRES Student Council Representatives will be having a popcorn fundraiser from Popcorn Palace after Spring Break. They will have an order form only, prices will range from $5 - $50 and cash payment is due at the time the order is placed. This is some seriously yummy gourmet popcorn folks and the only people you will be able to order from is our student council kiddos! They have chocolate/caramel drizzle, Oreo, and lots more so make sure you order some when you see them!

Student Council will also be sponsoring a Pennies for Patients drive for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society based here in north Texas at the same time as the popcorn fundraiser and will be a campus-wide event so be sure to save up your spare change and remember, it is a charitable donation so you’ll be able to write it off on your taxes next year! Both of these events will begin on March 17th and will run through March 27th.
