Happy New Year from Scurry-Rosser Elementary School. Well, we have made it through half of our 2014-2015 school year! I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed holiday season. I sure did!

With a new year comes a new semester. We are now in our spring semester and it is packed full of activities: field trips, book fairs, award assemblies, field days and TESTS!!!!!!! It is that time of year where everyone begins to work just a little harder each day in preparation for next year and January was no exception. We started out the month welcoming a new teacher to our staff, Mrs. Casey Daugherty. She is our new 3rd grade math teacher. She is a great addition to our school and we are so glad to have her here at SRES. We then celebrated each grade with our 2nd nine weeks PAWS assembly. During this assembly we recognized Perfect attendance, A/B Honor Roll, A Honor Roll, Most Improved Student and Exemplary Student in each class. We also drew two winners for our Perfectly Punctual Prizes for the 1st semester – two new bikes!!!! Our winners were Ambralee McWhorter, 3rd grader in Mrs. Daugherty’s class, and Cooper Laird, 2nd grader in Mrs. Moeller’s class. Congratulations to these two students!

We ended the month with our third graders taking their spring benchmarks, which were mock STAAR tests! This was a joint effort by our entire school. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a successful two days of testing for our 3rd graders. We are pleased with their results and overall they did quite well. We still have a little work to do, but everyone is pulling together and we will conquer the STAAR together as a team!

On the horizon for the month of February is our 100th day of school celebration on Friday, February 6, 2015. On this day we are asking everyone to come to school dressed like you are 100 years old!!!!!! Each grade level will be doing various activities to celebrate being in school for 100 days. The following week, 2/9/15-2/13/15, is our Book Fair. This is also a fun time for our school. Look for more information on both of these events coming home with your child soon!

Remember you are always welcome at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School, Where the Wildcat Tradition Begins. Take care!
