The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office recently announced that they are partnering with American Traffic Solutions (ATS) in an effort to enhance student safety. Together they have launched a school zone speed and school bus stop arm safety camera program in Kaufman County. Sheriff David Byrnes stated that “the intent of these programs is to make sure drivers stop for the school bus stop arm and reduce their speed in school zones.”
The programs began on October 21, 2014 with a 30-day warning period. During this period, warning notices will be issued to the vehicle’s registered owner, without a fine. The safety cameras located in school zones will operate during both the morning an afternoon hours on school days to capture images of vehicle traveling in excess of 6 mph or over the posted speed limit. The fine amount for speeding in school zones will be $150 and $350 for those who pass a stopped school bus stop arm.
School zone speed safety cameras will be monitoring at both Scurry-Rosser Elementary School and Scurry-Rosser Middle School.
