By Vickie Griffith, Scurry-Rosser Elementary School Principal

Exciting things are happening at Scurry-Rosser Elementary School. The first nine weeks have flown by with many activities happening throughout our school. Our students have worked hard academically and learned about fire safety from the Scurry-Rosser Volunteer Fire Department during our Fire Prevention Day. Students also participated in Red Ribbon Week activities for Drug Prevention and Awareness. They “gave drugs the boot” by wearing their boots. They “shaded out drugs” by wearing their sun shades. They “socked it to drugs” by wearing their crazy socks. They “put a cap on drugs” by wearing their hats/caps. Finally, they said “BOO to drugs” and dressed up like their favorite storybook character. I am proud to say SRES is “DRUG FREE!”

Along with all of the activities going on throughout our campus, teachers have been very busy administering beginning of the year assessments to find out exactly where our students are academically. The next step in the process is to conduct parent/teacher conferences to discuss student progress. These have started and will finish up soon. Parent/teacher conferences are a vital piece to your child’s education. SRES parents are such a valuable part of everything we do. You contribute so much to the education of our students. We want to extend a thank you to all of the parents who have attended these conferences and we hope that you have found them to be helpful. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

We have many opportunities for you to get involved, please remember to check your child’s “MOOSE” folder each day for upcoming dates and events. We have our Thanksgiving Feast planned for Friday, November 14, 2014. We look forward to seeing everyone there and hope you are able to attend. Tickets are $5 per parent/visitor and can be purchased the day of the feast. Thank you for all of your support and we appreciate all that you do for “OUR” SRES students.

Remember, Scurry-Rosser Elementary School is Where the Wildcat Tradition Begins. Take care!
